That observation led a team of researchers from the Center for Postsecondary Research, at Indiana University at Bloomington, to examine the time that professors devote to the key components of professorial work: teaching, research, and service. Adjunct faculty members teaching undergraduate-level courses hold either a doctoral or masters' degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline OR hold a masters' degree and has completed at least 18 graduate credit hours in the discipline. • Moderate-load faculty: 26.7 percent of professors, 27.6-hour workweek on core tasks. In some years, the Legislature has provided no additional funds for salary increases. Adjunct faculty members teaching graduate-level courses hold a terminal degree in teaching discipline (usually the doctorate) and has current certification for graduate instructions. The researchers devised the categories using their analysis of responses to the center’s Faculty Survey of Student Engagement by some 16,000 full-time instructors who teach at least one undergraduate course.
