The NYT has posted an interesting interactive map showing the results of the last slave Census taken in the U.S., in 1860, which I discovered via Jessica Brown and Jim Yocom. These numbers tell the amount of slaves being sent to that specific location. Includes population table based on census of 1860 by county dated "August 27th 1861" and note. Leonhardt.

Those numbers should give a reader pause: why should a county with 5,380 slaves be classified the same as a county with almost seven times as many slaves?
