What is a Police Vulnerable Sector Check and what information will it include? The act authorizes three different types of police record checks: In Ontario, beginning November 1, 2018, the following information must be included in police record checks that are subject to the Police Record Checks Reform Act: In Ontario, you can request a police record check from a municipal police service or the Ontario Provincial Police. Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check (will include criminal record & judicial matters search as well as Vulnerable Sector Search) Intended for those working or volunteering with the vulnerable population. What is a Police Criminal Records and Judicial Matters Check and what information will it include? There are also private businesses that provide police record checks. A full list of exemptions are outlined in legislation and regulation. If I'm under 18 years old, can I apply for any kind of Police Records Check? We request all applications be made online. Level 1 - Criminal Record Check - (basic check - search for criminal convictions only) This is not intended for anyone working or volunteering with the vulnerable sector. After July 15, 2020 (the current date for the end of the provincial state of emergency), the Kingston Police will re-evaluate resuming this service. Criminal convictions from CPIC and/or local databases and Summary convictions, for 5 years, when identified. The Information Services Division of the Kingston Police is very pleased to offer the citizens of Kingston the ability to utilize an automated online system for submitting Police Information Checks. The following outlines, generally, the Vulnerable Sector search process: As prescribed by the Criminal Records Act, any person undergoing a vulnerable sector search must first consent to that search being done. Click here for a list of the registered Agencies. When a police record check is requested, in all instances consent must first be granted by the individual. Some applicants may be required to pick up completed results. The Vulnerable Sector Check is restricted to applicants seeking employment and/or volunteering, in Canada, who are in a position of authority or trust relative to vulnerable individuals. Certain police record checks have been exempted from the Police Record Checks Reform Act, or parts of the act. Those applicants will have to attend the station Monday to Friday, between 8:00 a.m. & 6:00 p.m. excluding Statutory & Municipal Holidays. In very exceptional cases, where it meets the Exceptional Disclosure Assessment, non-conviction dispositions including, but not limited to Withdrawn and Dismissed. them via their personal K-PIC account. Applicants must produce two pieces of valid identification upon attendance. This exemption will not apply to vulnerable sector checks. Contact Police. Level 2 - Criminal Records & Judicial Matters Check -(searches for criminal convictions, outstanding charges, warrants, judicial orders etc.). This exemption will not apply to vulnerable sector checks. Only applicants who have had their identity verified through the E-ID verifier portion of K-PIC, will have results available to them via their personal K-PIC account. A police record check is a search of police database records about an individual. * Please note: for the purpose of the K-PIC online system the term “Agency” will also include reference to a company or an organization.  Examples of police record check exemptions include, but is not limited to, certain situations such as: OPP Independent Review Panel: Final Report, Not disclosed unless authorized under the, court orders made in relation to a charge that has been withdrawn, restraining orders made against the individual under the, certain information cannot be disclosed under the act, including whether you were a victim or witness of a crime or if you had non-criminal (i.e., did not lead to charges) contact with police while you were suffering from a mental health crisis, if a police record check provider carries out your check, the results will be released directly to you to confirm they are factually correct before you give permission for them to be released to a third party, youth records, if released to the individual, are released as a separate record and should not be shared with anybody else, including a potential employer, if you believe certain records in your check are inaccurate or should not be included as per the, if you believe certain non-conviction information should not be included, you can ask the police record check provider to reconsider whether the information should be contained in your check, providing residential care or foster care for children and youth, requirements for a firearms license application, screening for certain roles and purposes in the education, early years, child care, and justice sectors, and in relation to certain roles within the Ontario Public Service, screening for certain roles in electricity generation facilities, certain contexts related to securities markets.
